Neal Dow Elementary School has a Chess Team which meets mandatorily on Wednesdays after school until 3:15 in room 4. This club time is offered in order for team members to learn and improve upon their chess strategies and tactics. In order to be on the team, students are required to pay a $35 membership fee which provides them with a 12-month membership to the Sacramento Valley Scholastic Chess League (SVSCL) as well as the United States Chess Federation (USCF). I do not want financial obstacles to get in the way of a child’s desire to be on our team. Scholarships are available to qualifying families. Our team competes once a month in sanctioned chess tournaments held at different schools throughout our league which extends from Yuba City to Corning. Interested students or parents should contact Mr. Obe.
